Australian Opera, Musical Theatre and Cabaret Superstars, Antoinette Halloran and David Rogers-Smith, take on the lush and unforgettable music of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein.

Two of the most prolific writers of the Twentieth Century, they wrote some of the most popular musicals of their time, including The Sound of Music, Carousel, The King & I, Oklahoma and so many more.

Antoinette Halloran has starred in shows with Opera Australia and The Victorian Opera and David Rogers-Smith has performed roles in Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. Put all that together, and you have two of Australia’s finest vocalists, performing the music of two of the most beloved songwriters of The American Musical Theatre world.

Antoinette Halloran 

One of Australia’s most accomplished and best-loved sopranos, Antoinette Halloran performs regularly with all the major Australasian opera companies and symphony orchestras and appears frequently on national television and radio.

2017 engagements included the title role in Tosca for West Australian Opera (Helpmann Award nomination), The Fox in The Cunning Little Vixen for Victorian Opera, associate artist for José Carreras’ National Tour and concert appearances with the Melbourne, West Australian and Christchurch Symphony Orchestras. She returns to Opera Australia in 2018 as Praskovya in The Nose.

A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts and recipient of an Honours Degree in Music from the University of Melbourne, Antoinette has appeared in many productions ranging from opera to musical theatre and cabaret.

Leading appearances for Opera Australia have included the title roles in Madama Butterfly and Rusalka, Mimi in La bohème, Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire (Green Room Award), Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni Fata Morgana in The Love for Three Oranges and Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus; for New Zealand Opera – Mimi, Cio-Cio-San and Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd; for Victorian Opera – Fiordiligi in Così fan Tutte, Adina in L’elisir d’amore and Mrs Lovett (Helpmann Award nomination); for Opera Queensland – the title role in The Merry Widow; for State Opera of South Australia – Micaela in Carmen.

Antoinette also featured as a guest judge and panelist on the ABC television series Operatunity Oz, and appeared regularly on the hit show Spicks and Specks and was a presenter for ABC’s Art Nation – covering stories on opera and music theatre.
In concert, she has sung with Elvis Costello and the Brodsky Quartet for the Sydney Festival, Mozart’s Requiem with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Carmina Burana with the Melbourne Chorale, El Niño with Sydney Philharmonia and Haydn’s Creation and Fauré’s Requiem with the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic.

Antoinette has also been a regular visitor to Japan, China and Indonesia where she is much in demand as a guest artist. She recorded Puccini Romance for ABC Classics with tenor Rosario La Spina and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

David Rogers-Smith

David Rogers-Smith is a regular on the opera, musical theatre, concert, oratorio and cabaret stages. He has performed with all major orchestras in Australia (SSO, MSO, APO), includng appearing with the MSO duetting with Ben Folds.

Career credits include over 2,500 performances as Ubaldo Piangi for the International and Australasian tours of The Phantom of the Opera, Brujon/Jean Valjean cover for the International tour of Les Miserables, the Ziegfeld Tenor in Funny Girl, Mary Sunshine cover in Chicago, Forbidden Broadway 2000, Brian in Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens, Buddy Plummer in Follies in Concert, Sondheim’s Marry Me A Little; General Kromov in The Merry Widow with Marina Prior; Zaza in La Cage aux Folles opposite John O’May.

Operatic credits include Degas in Gaugin – A Synthetic Life, Ein sklave in Salome (Kirov Opera), Michele in The Saint of Bleecker Street, The Impresario in Mozart’s The Impresario and for Canberra’s Street Theatre he originated the role of David in the premiere of From A Black Sky. With Melbourne Opera he has played Lt BF Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, the title roles in both Pagliacci and Faust, Danilo in The Merry Widow and Don Jose in Carmen.

With Victorian Opera: Jules/Greenberg in Sunday In The Park With George, Into The Woods, Pirrelli in Sweeney Todd and originated the role of Alex in the new opera The Riders. This year David originated another role, Drew, in Paul Grabowsky and Steve Vizard’s Banquet of Secrets in both Melbourne and Brisbane.

David most recently appeared as Roscoe in Follies in Concert at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
David’s debut CD A Little Bit In Love was released in 2012.

Show Details

This show features two of Ausrtralia’s most wonderful classical/musical theatre vocalists.  It can be performed as a morning or evening show and is performed with piano.  For an evening show it can have extra instrumentation added if required.

It can be performed as a 70 minute show with no interval,
or 2 sets of 35-40 minutes each.

It is a straightforward, no fuss productions.
